  • Jens said: "'I Know What Love Isn't' is my debut album. After spending a decade making records of loosely connected stories and sounds I finally made an album with one story instead of ten. A story that is not new, but essentially human. The story of the grey areas of love that you have to excavate and explore, using the process of elimination, to maybe not find out what love is, but at least get a bit closer."



    Falsification is a basic principle of the scientific method. Science advances, not through seeking evidence by confirming hypotheses for a favoured theory, but through elimination of false hypotheses.

    By this album Jens had made some significant scientific progress.

    The evidence is presented in a slick and elegant but somewhat subdued style, perhaps in accordance with his findings.

    The punchlines are replaced by a more straightforward but just as sophisticated narration. Tragicomedy has given way to a sorrow that not even art can keep at a manageable distance, only express gracefully.

    It’s like the steps are shorter and steadier, the road is straighter, and it is definitely not leading anywhere but away.

    But Jens would not be the first one to walk into the desert just to return a prophet.

    The artwork was also a fitting image for Service’s last release. But what might look like disappearing into nothingness, is in fact a charting of new territories, exploring lush oases. Not to start another chapter, but to begin a new book.
